Last week one of my clients asked me what there is to do locally to meet new people in the area.
Moving to another country can be a little daunting at first while you settle in. I found that I met numerous new friends taking my children to their new Spanish school when I first arrived 18 years ago. Here are a few other places and organizations that I have known over the years. If you can recommend others please feel free to comment.
Pat Jay, a natural healer has been here many years and holds monthly coffee mornings and lunches in the local area for ladies to meet up and share ideas.
Ali Meehan whom I have known many years created costawomen.com
Costa Women was created as a community for Women like you – living in, or thinking about relocating to Spain.
It provides an essential connection point for Women, along with space for you to join in and get real life tips and advice about life in sunny Spain. Our website, costawomen.com, is free to join.
Having travelled this far, the Costa Women members already share an adventurous spirit; we have stepped outside of our normal environment and moved overseas. That provides us with a wonderful connection.
Costa Women connect Women over the whole of Spain – from Costa del Sol to Asturias, from Barcelona to Cadiz, from Madrid to Canary Islands and all the places in-between. We host local events in 23 different locations.
The friends that you can make on Costa Women are just one of the many benefits of joining the community website. Enjoy the diversity of all individuals from 59 different countries, including our Spanish hosts, accessing the one site; we all have a story to tell.
costawomen.com is free to join and any Women can become a member, no matter what your hobbies, values, beliefs, or views. Use the website as a springboard to find other Women who have the same interests, or hobbies and to create a network of friends. Join in!
We also have space for:-
– Hobbies, Language and Interest Groups
– Job Adverts
– Sharing your blogs
– Weekly Interviews with you, our members about your hobbies, charity, or business

Helping out at charity shops or events is a great way to meet new people and help the causes at the same time. There are many worthy charities that you can approach in our area and offer your services as a volunteer. Here are a few that I know of:
ARCH (Horse and donkey rescue)
Cudeca (Cancer care)
Chain (abused and neglected animals)
Street dogs Costa Del Sol
Local places to go to meet English people:
Another way to meet new people is to attend a new keep fit class or yoga class.
The wellness centre in Coin is very good value and has all sorts of classes like Pilates and body pump or the open gym plus a wonderful spa that is included in the monthly fee currently at 35 euros !!
Karen Cole holds the most amazing yoga classes in Coin at her home which has a large yurt where she holds the classes.
Local English bars:
The frog and Toad bar/restaurant in Alhaurin el Grande is run by an English couple and serves fish and chips, pie and mash and Sunday roast dinners as well as other dishes and tasty homemade soup. Hey also have the football on the TV for the men to catch up on the matches.
Every week there are great value coach trips to every conceivable place of interest in the province of Andalucia and beyond including shopping trips to Gibraltar. For more information call Derek on 696430160.
